Legal Basis
There is no specific legislation although some regulations on the organization and management of country code top-level domain names do exist.
Filing
Country code top-level domain name: .in (available to all applicants as a separate appellation).
Internationalized domain name: .bharat (available to all applicants).
Sub-domains: .co.in; .firm.in; .net.in; .org.in; .ind.in; .gen.in (for a complete list, please consult: https://registry.in/).
Applicant: individuals and legal entities.
Restriction as to nationality: none.
Local presence: not required.
Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration.
Domain name can be registered as a trademark: yes.
Registration, Protection
Duration: one to ten years.
Renewal/maintenance: one to ten years, renewable.
Dispute about ownership: can be brought before the court.
Uniform dispute resolution procedure: India follows .IN Dispute Resolution Policy (INDRP) and INDRP Rules of Procedure, which is akin to UDRP adopted by ICANN for resolution of disputes relating to top-level domain names.
