Domain Names

There is no specific legislation although some regulations on the organization and management of country code top-level domain names do exist.

Filing

Country code top-level domain name: .il (also available in Hebrew since November 2022).

Sub-domains: .co.il; .ac.il; .k12.il; .muni.il; .idf.il; .gov.il; .org.il; .net.il 

Applicant: individuals and legal entities.

Restriction as to nationality: none.

Local presence: not required.

Domestic trademark right: not required for obtaining domain name registration.

Domain name can be registered as a trademark: yes, if used as such. There is no regulation preventing such an option.

Registration, Protection

Duration: one to two years.

Renewal/maintenance: one to two years, renewable.

Dispute about ownership: can be brought before the Advisory Committee Panel (applies WIPO’s resolution procedures) or the District Court of Jerusalem or Tel Aviv (depending on the nature of the conflict).

Uniform dispute resolution procedure: none, but an administrative procedure other than UDRP is available before ISOC-IL.

Registration Authority

Authority name: Israel Internet Association (ISOC-IL). However, there are local domain name registries which are authorized to manage domain name registrations, transfers and renewals.
