General Remarks
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is now one of the richest countries in the world and is experiencing a phenomenal rate of development. Petroleum and natural gas are Saudi Arabia’s primary resources totaling 18% of the world’s proven petroleum reserves. Production of petroleum can reach more than ten million barrels daily.
The main mineral resources are copper, iron ore, phosphate, magnesite, salt deposits, zinc, chromium and thorium.
Other major industries include major hydrocarbon processing installations, cement, prefabricated buildings and building materials, chemicals, chemical fertilizers, textiles, food processing and beverages, glass, and vehicle assembly plants.
