Membership in International Conventions

Taiwan is not a signatory to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, but after becoming a member of the WTO, has been bound by the Trips Agreement to provide protection to works of all WTO member countries.

Protection

Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created.  

Duration: economic rights last for the lifetime of the author plus 50 years after the author's death. But for an author who is a legal entity, its economic rights in works endure for 50 years after publication; if the work is not published within 50 years after creation, the economic rights shall subsist for 50 years after completion of the work. In addition, economic rights for photographic works, audiovisual works, sound recordings, and performances endure for 50 years after the publication.
