Protection

Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created. It is, however, possible to deposit a work, including unpublished works, with SIAE ("Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori") at www.siae.it/en/autori-ed-editori/theatre/declaring-a-work. SIAE issues a filing certificate in which a number and filing date are assigned. SIAE does not check the content of what is filed, therefore, if a work, which cannot be protected under the Copyright Law, is filed with SIAE, no right will be acquired through the deposit, even if the deposit is accepted by SIAE.

Duration: during the lifetime of the author, plus 70 years after his death.
