Protection

Definition: a trade secret is information that: (1) concerns the business or operating circumstances in a trader's business or a research institution's activities; (2) either as a whole or in the precise configuration and assembly of its components, is not generally known or readily accessible to persons who normally have access to information of the relevant kind; (3) the holder has taken reasonable measures to keep secret; and (4) the disclosure of which is likely to lead to competitive damages for the holder.
