Protection

Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created. The Copyright Act provides that works will be protected by the sole fact of their creation and irrespective of their mode or form of expression, as well as their content, quality, and purpose. Further, there is no Copyright Register. 

Duration: (a) during the lifetime of the author, plus 50 years after his death. In the case of joint ownership, the economic and moral rights will be protected for the duration of the last surviving author and 50 years after his death; (b) in the case of a collective work, other than a work of applied art, and in the case of an audiovisual work, the economic and moral rights to the work shall be protected for 50 years from the date on which the work was either made, first made available to the public, or first published, whichever date is the latest; (c) in the case of a work published anonymously or under a pseudonym, the economic and moral rights to the work shall be protected for 50 years from the date on which the work was either made, first made available to the public, or first published, whichever date is the latest, but, where the author's identity is revealed or is no longer in doubt before the expiration of that period subsection (1) or (2) of the Law shall apply, as the case may be; (d) in the case of a work of applied art, the economic and moral rights to the work shall be protected for 25 years from the making of the work. The period of years provided shall run to the end of the calendar year in which it would otherwise expire.
