Procedure and Protection

Procedure: it is not necessary to register copyright in order to obtain full protection, nor are there any procedures prescribed by the Act.

Duration: varies according to the type of works: literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works: life of the author plus fifty years; sound recordings, broadcasts and cable programs: fifty years from publication; typographical arrangement of a published edition: twenty-five years from publication.

Moral and related rights: protected.

Assignment: possible; must be in writing; moral rights are not assignable except by succession.

Use: fair dealing for research and private study if authorship is acknowledged, and use for instruction or education are permitted.
