Protection
Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created. However, for work to qualify for copyright, the author has to be one of the following: (a) a Fiji citizen; (b) an individual domiciled or resident in Fiji; (c) a citizen or subject of a prescribed foreign country; (d) a resident of a prescribed foreign country; (e) a body incorporated under the laws of a prescribed foreign country. A work qualifies for copyright protection if it is first published in Fiji or in a prescribed foreign country. A prescribed foreign country is a country which is a party to the Conventions mentioned above.
Duration: during the lifetime of the author, plus 50 years after his death.
