Legal Basis
There is no specific legislation although some regulations on the organization and management of country code top-level domain names do exist.
Filing
Country code top-level domain name: .qa (also available in Arabic).
Sub-domains: .com.qa; .edu.qa; .gov.qa; .org.qa; .net.qa; .name.qa; .mil.qa; .sch.qa
Applicant: individuals and legal entities.
Restriction as to nationality: none.
Local presence: required.
Domestic trademark right: required for .com.qa and .net.qa
Domain name can be registered as a trademark: yes.
Eligibility requirements: no eligibility requirements for the registration of .qa and .qatar (Arabic domain name). For the extension .com.qa, the applicant must either have a valid trade license issued within the State of Qatar or be a registered holder of a trademark registration issued in Qatar. For the extension .net.qa the applicant must have either a trade license issued within the State of Qatar and/or a license issued by competent authorities of the State of Qatar for the provision of ICT services in accordance with the laws of Qatar or be a registered holder of a trademark in Qatar for an ICT service or products. In case the applicant does not have either a local company in Qatar or is not a holder of a valid trademark registration in Qatar, the domain name extensions .com.qa and .net.qa may registered using a local agent in Qatar.
Registration, Protection
Duration: one year.
Renewal/maintenance: one year, renewable.
Dispute about ownership: to be brought before the court.
Uniform dispute resolution procedure: available (variation of UDRP) before WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
Authority name: Communications Regulatory Authority.
