– Constitution Article 19 No. 25: Recognizes the intellectual and industrial property as a right to any person.
– Civil Code Article 584: "The productions of talent or ingenuity are property of their authors". Stating that "This kind of property shall be governed by special laws."

Protection

Registration is not required for owners of an original work. Copyright protection is automatic and free from the moment a work is created. However, registration is possible and provides important benefits such as proof of ownership. 

Duration: (a) during the lifetime of the author, plus 70 years after his death; (b) work for hire in software and being the employer of a legal entity: 70 years from the first publication; (c) collaborative works: 70 years after the death of the last co-author; (d) anonymous works: 70 years from the first publication; (e) related rights: 70 years from December 31 of the year of publication of the phonograms with respect of phonograms producers and 70 years from the publication of the performances in respect of artists, interpreters or performers. In case of performances non-recorded, the period of 70 years shall run from the date of its realization; (f) protection of the broadcasting from radio or tv stations: 50 years counted from December 31 of the year of its transmission.
